We may never know whether Kanye West is too proud to beg, because it turns out he didn’t have to beg in order to land the cover of Vogue for Kim Kardashian. Anna Wintour, the fashion magazine’s editor-in-chief, says "there’s no truth whatsoever to the persistent rumors that Kanye cajoled her into giving his fiancée the honor."
“It was, I should add, entirely our idea to do it,” she says of the cover. “You may have read that Kanye begged me to put his fiancée on Vogue's cover. He did nothing of the sort,” she explains, adding, “The gossip might make better reading, but the simple fact of the matter is that it isn't true."
That’s not to say Kanye hasn’t been outspoken in the past about his wife-to-be deserving to front an issue of the magazine.
“There is no way Kim Kardashian shouldn’t be on the cover of Vogue,” Kanye told Ryan Seacrest during an October interview. “She’s like the most intriguing woman right now. She’s got Barbara Walters calling her like everyday.”
Well, Anna has no argument there, asserting that Vogue always strives to “feature those who define the culture at any given moment, who stir things up, whose presence in the world shapes the way it looks and influences the way we see it.”
The fashion authority also calls out Kim’s poise under constant media scrutiny. “Kim, through her strength of character, has created a place for herself in the glare of the world's spotlight, and it takes real guts to do that."
